Ok, so all your friends are making pures and you've heard how much
they own the wilderness (yeah we all know the story), and you want to make your own pure as well, well you've made
the first step by consulting a guide, to get all the helpful tips you need on creating a pure.
1a. What is a pure?
A pure character is a character that concentrates solely on one or more combat
skills, whether this is range, mage, or strength. This basically allows you to get an enormously high strength, range or mage
level and keep a relatively low combat level. The basic rule of pures is that low defence is better, preferably 1, but generally
no higher than 20. This is because the combat system in RuneScape relies alot on the character's defence level, meaning that
if you are range or mage based, you can still get combat lvls due to your defence levels, this wasn't always like this, the
old RuneScape didn't get you as many combat levels when you got your defence up, but that's another story.
b. What is a hybrid?
A Hybrid is very similar to a pure, if not exactly the same. It is basically a character that
has high range, mage, strength, and a decently high attack level, and obviously 1 def.
An example of a Hybrid character:
attack: 60
strength: 70
range: 90
mage: 85
2. Where to start?
Firstly you have to create a new level 3 character on free to play, and carefully select whether
you want a pure ranger, mage, or strength, or even a hybrid. Secondly you have to make sure make sure he/she has
a really cool name. I personally suggest you do some thinking towards the name, so that people will remember your name when
you kill then, it's basically let the pkers know who you are.
Id try to avoid any name with alot of numbers such as: Pet3r 4534
..and try to come up with something original.
Also don't put 'I' at the front and end of your name, like: I wrack I, Not that there's anything
wrong with that, it's just that every 'pay to play' pure has that name, it's just not original anymore
You can also try and relate your name to your selected skill, but that again is often used. The
bottom line is just try and be creative.
3. What you need?
Ok firstly I’ll start with the overall costs
of pures, starting with strength pures.
There generally isn’t a lot of money needed
in creating a strength pure. In total all you need is roughly a few mil, which will mainly be spent on food, weapons and a
few pots, and a lot of patience
Rangers are second most expensive. Roughly to get
a range pure to 99 range in ‘pay to play’ you are looking at 10-15mil, although this can be reduced if you wish
to train the slower, cheaper way.
Mages excel in total costs, totalling roughly 20 times
more than a strength pure. To get to 99 mage, this can cost you up to 20mil+ possibly more. This is mainly spent on runes
and maging wear. The likes of a Mud staff costs 5mil, for ‘pay to play’ pures, and souls cost roughly 500 ea.
Although training a mage my not always be such a loss.
A slower more approachable way, is to use your main
to buy bowstrings and yew, or mage logs, and fletch them into longs for your pure to high alch. Although, if you buy the nature
runes you will still be losing money, but not as much as if you alched fire runes or something.
Ok secondly I’ll tell you how to level the pure
up in ‘free to play’ servers as each type of pure.

Strength pure

Step 1.
What to buy:
Scimmys (steel, black, mith, addy and rune)
Rune 2hander.
Strength ammies (roughly 10 for pking)
Few sets of full iron
Food (1000 trout and 1000 tuna)
20 anti fire shields (or what ever you need for pking)
10 sets of green dragon ranger sets (excluding top)
4k-5k bronze (or iron arrows)
Coif
Several of all the ‘free to play bows’
(up to maple)
Amulet of accuracy (not essential)
Step 2.
Ok, now that you have everything you need, you can
start training your strength pure.
1-7 attack
The best place you can start to train your pure is
at the dummies in the building directly in front of Varrock east bank. Train your attack until you can’t train anymore,
so basically until it’s level 7.
7-10 attack
Train from 7-10 attack at goblins in goblin village
north of Falador, and north of Doric’s anvil and members gate. Don’t worry about gaining combat levels from your
hit points, because higher hit points is good, gives you an advantage over the enemy. Wear full iron while training against
these guys.
1-30 strength
Keep
training your strength to 30 at goblin village using your black scimmy, like previous don’t worry about your hit points
level, and remember not to bury bones, or get any defence level.
10-20 attack
Train up to mith scimmy fighting still against the
goblins, or cows, whatever takes you fancy, but try to keep these guys a low combat level, because you are still fairly weak
because of your 1 defence.
Hint: Don’t train at giant rats in Varrock
sewers, as they only have 3 hp, meaning that you only gain 12xp in your selected stat and 3xp in your hit points, which is
incredibly slow to train against, also, there are only a few giant rats.
30-40 strength
As before I advise you stick to low levels, with low
defence and where they are plentiful, such as goblin, dwarves or cows. Avoid hill giants, because they are always packed in
‘free to play’, and you are not after their bones, also try and avoid skeletons for the time being, because they
are level 21, and its wasteful of food to train there.
1-27 mage
The reason to get 27 mage is solely for teleporting
from low-level wilderness, if you are stuck in a tricky situation with little food or support.
Firstly, you are going to get to 27 mage without getting
any combat levels, or without getting any hp xp. This can be done by wind striking goblins or skeletons, which have higher
defence. Wear full iron, with kite and mith scimmy. Cast a few wind strikes, hopefully failing them all, because of your low
mage attack bonus because of the iron, until you can use curse. Then use the curse and weaken spells on the small rats in
Varrock sewers, still wearing full iron, until you can Varrock teleport.
20-40 attack
Ok now you can start looking for higher levels, you
could try skeletons, or zombies, which are deep in Varrock sewers. Train with An addy scimmy when you get to 30 attack, and
rune when you get to 40
40-60/70 strength
You should be noticing the difference in your pace
of gaining xp, which is good. I also advise you take a few pking trips between 50-60 strength, as you character is now well
developed and should have the potential to do well.
Hint: remember that there are a lot of pures
that loiter around in the wilderness in ‘free to play’, so unless you have a team I wouldn’t advise going
pking in multi zones, stick to places such as the castle in north west wildy. Try not to get lured by characters in single
to their clan in multi, slightly north of the castle, and in the castle. Know where you stand and stay in the single, western
area of the castle.
1-40 range
Ok you are probably noticing, that if you get close
to a few mages, regardless of their defence, they constantly hit high on you, because of your low mage defence because of
the iron armour, and you can’t hit them hard and fast enough to win the fight.
Well that’s why you get your range up, so you
are more resilient to mage attacks.
Sadly
there’s no way to get your range up in non members without gaining combat levels from hit points, unless you are prepared
to wait on 100s of genie lamps lol.
I suggest you train your range to 30 on cows, using
bronze arrows, which you don’t need to pick up, as you will only be using them to get to 40 range them stopping.
Then train on Skeletons in Varrock sewers, with iron
arrows, which again you don’t pick up. I advise you range from behind the iron grill gate beside the torture rack in
the sewers, that way you need little or no food.
What you bring into the wilderness?
Rune 2hander or rune scimmy (2hander is slower but
hits higher, I advise uses 2hander against mages, because they hit equally as slow, and scimmy against rangers)
Green dragon hide legs (lighter than iron legs and
good def against melee and mage)
Green dragon hides vambs
Iron chain body (decent defence, weights much less
than plate) or blue mage top (gives mage def)
Strength ammy
2 (4) strength pots
Full load of swordfish or lobsters
Iron helm or coif or wizard hat
Conclusion
If you want to improve your pure for high-level wilderness
pking, only raise its strength until it gets to roughly 70-75 then train attack up to 50. Stength pures in my opinion have
the greater advantage in 'free to play' because they are the only combat stance, that are allowed to use potions, therefore
they can raise their strength even more than a pure ranger, or mage at the same level.
By this time you will probably be interested in making
him/her a member, or the sooner the better, see my ‘pay to play’ guide for more information about levelling your
pure using the member only features.

Mage pure

Generally speaking, mage pures tend to have lower
hit points that any other type of pure, this is because to make a high level mage pure, there tends to be alot of high alching,
which for the record, doesn't give hit points xp. Also mages gain xp for every cast, not for every hit like with rangers and
strength pures, this means that it is potentially faster to train mage pures, than it is to train anyother pure.
Mage training in 'free to play' could essentially
be trained in the wilderness at a low level, because as I said previously, you get xp for every cast, and more for every hit.
Mage also allows you to hit extremely high at such a low level. For example a level 4 charcter with level 3 mage, can hit
4, which is 3 higher that what a meleeing character can cause.
Step 1.
What to buy?
Firstly, and foremost, you are going to need runes,
generally in 'free to play' the maximum level needed for good pking is level 59, because this allows you to cast fireblast,
which is the highest hitting spell in 'f2p'
Roughly:
Death runes (for pking)
1000 body runes
3000 water runes
3000 earth runes
1000 natures
5000 fire runes
500 laws (training and teleporting form wilderness)
60 mind runes
fire staff
air staff
water staff
earth staff
10x blue mage robe top
10x mage hat
10x priest gown or blue robe
10x mage ammies
full iron
Where to train?
1-3
Train your mage from 1 to level 3 in varrock sewers,
on the small rats
3-25
Cast confuse, weaken and curse wearing full iron
against the small rats in Varrock sewers until you can varrock teleport. There are two choices after Varrock teleport, you
can teleport until you can use firebolt, and train your character's combat up more by gaining hit points levels until you
are 59 or 60 mage, or you can teleport until you can high alch, then high alch to 60.
If you followed the high alching route, you will now
have noticed that you have an incredibly low hit points level, compared to your combat level. This means that you can concentrate
on another level such as range or melee (but avoiding defence levels) until you get your hitpoints up to a desirable level,
such as 40 or 35.
You are now ready to pk with fire blast. I advise
as a mage you stick in a team, even the strongest mage can be pked of easily by a character that hits high through your
weak armour. I also suggest that you pk close beside some strength pures, that way if a ranger appears (which there are plenty
off), the meleer can take him/her out. Don't worry about the strength pure being pked off by a few mages, because most strength
pures secondary combat is range

Range pure

What you
need?
Green dragonhide vambs
Green dragonhide legs
Leather body
ammie of accuracy
5000 bronze/iron arrows
addy arrows (for pking)
Coif
All 'f2p' bows
Full leather armour
Where to train?
Range pures are very straight forward to train. I
advise you train your range from 1-40 on cows, then from 40-60 on skeletons in edgeville or Varrock dungeon. Generally speaking
most range pures stay pure, except for 25 mage for Varrock teleport, whereas some raise their strength up and their attack,
to be able to fend themselves for viligantely against other warriors.
What to pk with?
I advise you pk in full green drag hide, with a leather
body. Bring a full invent of swordfish, with some tele runes, and roughly 100-200 addy arrows. I also advise pking in
low level wilderness unless you feel confident with yourself. Avoid multi area wilderness above level 30 unless accompanied
by a clan, or a few other allied pkers, because clans can easily log on and take you out in seconds. Also if you have a decent
strength level and attack level, you can bring a rune scimmy or 2hander with you and a strength potion
